![]() ![]() Canon Discontinuity: Mortal Kombat 9 doesn't make any direct references to Shaolin Monks in the story, aside of a small nod, and seems to use the "original" versions of MK1 and MK2's stories instead, but several of the Challenge Tower missions are directly based on parts of the game. But Thou Must!: In the battle against Kitana, Mileena, and Jade, it doesn't matter which one you hit with the Fatality stunner, Jade is always the one killed. ![]() Ermac can also be challenged in the Warrior Shrine, and a return trip to the Living Forest and exploring the previously unreachable treetops can get you a second fight with Mileena. Doing so results in Kano's death & Jax arriving to take Sonya back to Earthrealm, which'll also leave you an extra health item to use in the final boss fights otherwise they remain in the background of the arena. Bonus Boss: The player has the option of fighting Kano before leaving to fight Shao Kahn. You can also add Kano in there if you choose to fight him. Boss Bonanza: The final section of the game sees you fight Shang Tsung, Kintaro, and Shao Kahn all in a row.His plan never gets very far as he's killed by Liu Kang and Kung Lao before he has the chance to even try, implying he didn't have a chance of success regardless. Big Bad Wannabe: Shang Tsung, much like the main series.Badass in Distress: Sonya is kidnapped by Baraka after the Tournament and by the end of the game, both Johnny Cage and Katana have been captured and can be found in cells just before the final battle with Shao Kahn.Animal-Themed Fighting Style: Liu Kang's fighting styles in this game are Dragon and Monkey Kung Fu.Adaptational Jerk Ass: The same Kung Lao who was once a humble warrior who did not seek the spotlight is now an honour obsessed, ill-tempered Jerk Jock who endlessly teases Liu Kang about Kitana, not to mention buying into Shang Tsung's scheme.the franchise's Developers' Foresight page.Overall, this is a great beat them up game that stayed true to Mortal Kombat fans past and future. * Lots of backtracking where you play areas over and over again in order to gain access to areas restricted till future moves are learned. * Once you are playing in single mode or co-op mode, you can't change from one to the other. * Hours upon hours of fun unlocking hidden characters and features (like Mortal Kombat II) * Faithful Mortal Kombat prior exprience is NOT needed * Seemless fighting with complex moves combined into a button push or two * Painstaking recreation of fighting areas but better, cooler and you get to use Mortal Kombat signature moves! Gone is the one on one fighting style but you are now emersed in a 3D environment similar to that of Double Dragon and Streets of Rage. This is a 3D action fighting game from Mortal Kombat. The boss fights are especially fun and not to mention the fatalities. It's not "pull your hair out" hard nor is it too easy. I bought this mainly because it has the Mortal Kombat 2 arcade game in it as an unlockable feature which is great. You get to pick Liu Kang, Kung Lao and with special codes, you can also be either Scorpion or Sub Zero (which is a big plus) to beat the game! Reminds me of the music found in Mortal Kombat 2. The music and sound effects are typical to Mortal Kombat titles and that's a good thing, especially if your an MK fan like me. This effect seems to blur out any jagged edges, so I guess that's a good thing. Everything seems like it's glowing a bit. The graphics are decent/nice, but nothing ground breaking. It really depends on who you're playing with. For some reason, it felt a bit more tedious with 2 players. I enjoyed the game for the most part, especially in single player mode more so than the 2 player mode. Two initially playable characters: Liu Kang and Kung Lao Fight Shang Tsung's minions alone or with a friend in co-op play Find secret tokens to unlock concept art, characters for versus play, and more Includes the Play in interactive environments where you can hang the enemy from a hook, impale them on a ceiling spike, or even melt them in a pit of acid.Īction/Adventure, Adventure, Action/Adventureīlood and Gore, Intense Violence, Language Annihilate the enemy with up to 10 fatalities for each character using weapons you discover throughout the game or with classic attacks, including fireballs from Liu Kang or the deadly signature hat throw of Kung Lao. Face off against the franchise's regular enemies and new bosses in both single and two-player format. Expand your Mortal Kombat video game collection with Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, an adventure fighting game from 2005 dedicated to Kung Lao and Liu Kang, two of the franchise's most popular characters. ![]()
